Hello Wee Weekenders!

This weekend is serving up a proper Glasgow pick ’n’ mix: trading cards, Barbie sparkle, BMX wobble-to-warrior moments, Highland Games chaos, gala day goodness, nature adventures, bargain baby gear, smoky fire-cooked feasting and a brand-new set of colourful courts to cheer about.

Basically, something for every family mood — from “let’s get outdoors” to “please let there be snacks.”

🃏 The Scotland Card Show

Collectors, assemble! Scotland’s biggest trading card show returns to the SEC with tables packed full of Pokémon, sports cards, Magic: The Gathering, Disney Lorcana, Yu-Gi-Oh!, signed memorabilia, vintage treasures and more. Whether your wee one is already a card shark or you are just trying to understand why one shiny rectangle is apparently “legendary”, this is a buzzing day out for fans and curious newcomers alike.

👠 Barbie®: The Exhibition

Barbie is landing at Kelvingrove — and she’s bringing nearly 70 years of fashion, design, friendship and pink-powered cultural history with her. This major exhibition features over 250 objects, covering everything from dolls and dream houses to vehicles, furniture and the many eras of Barbie style. A fun one for nostalgic grown-ups, design-loving kids and anyone who has ever lost a tiny shoe in the carpet.

🚲 Scottish BMX School: Flatland & Street BMX Skills Session

Got a child who likes wheels, speed and giving you mild heart palpitations? This free BMX skills session is a brilliant way to try flatland and street BMX in a supportive, beginner-friendly setting. All equipment is provided, with adapted bikes available too, including trikes and a wheelchair-accessible trike — so more riders can get involved, build confidence and maybe discover their new favourite hobby.

🏀 Victoria Park Courts Opening

Victoria Park’s bright new basketball and netball courts are getting their official big moment, with former Scotland stars Lynsey Gallagher and Kieron Achara doing the ribbon-cutting honours. Stick around for showcase matches from Highland Fever — Scotland’s first ever Men’s and Mixed Netball team — plus a local wheelchair basketball team. A brilliant one for sporty kids, curious beginners and anyone who loves a community celebration with a side of “maybe we should buy a ball on the way home?”

🏴 Bearsden & Milngavie Highland Games

A classic family day out with pipes, dancing, wrestling, heavies, stalls, fairground rides and the legendary World Haggis Hurling Championship. Yes, really. Everyone is encouraged to have a go, so this could be the weekend your family discovers its hidden talent for competitive haggis launching. Add food, crafts and displays into the mix and you’ve got a full day of traditional Scottish fun.

🎪 Carmunnock Gala Day

Carmunnock Gala Day is back with proper village fair vibes: parade, crowning ceremony, stalls, food, music, activities and laughter galore. The parade leaves from the garage at 11.45am before heading to the park, where the fun continues with plans for a creepy crawly zoo, silent disco, painting experience and live music. Bring the kids, bring your best “I’m definitely winning the prize draw” energy.

🌿 The Conservation Volunteers: Family Nature Exploration Sessions

For families who fancy fresh air without the “are we there yet?” soundtrack, these nature-based sessions across Seven Lochs offer guided walks, creative workshops and community activities in lovely green spaces. Expect outdoor art, growing activities and accessible sections of the Seven Lochs Trail — a wholesome way to let the kids explore, make, wander and hopefully burn off enough energy for an early night. We can dream.
